報道: WordPressの公式ホスティングサービスWordPress.comのActivityPub対応

概要

「改版: WordPress ActivityPub plugin v1.0.0 | フォロー情報や投稿更新のバグ修正など買収後の正式公開 | GNU social JP」で前回紹介した際に、WordPress.comのActivityPub対応がもうじきだとの予告がありました。

今回、WordPress.com (WordPress.com: Build a Site, Sell Your Stuff, Start a Blog & More) がActivityPubに対応したとの発表があったので紹介します。

WordPress.comはWordPressの公式のホスティングサービスです。WordPress自体は世界のWebサイトの半分で使われているとの噂があります。WordPress.comがActivityPubに対応したことで、大型サーバーが分散SNSに参加したと思ってよいと思います。

内容

WordPress.comでActivityPubプラグインが利用戒能になりました。

[Settings]-[Discussion]-[Enter the fediverse] をオンにするとActivityPubが有効になります。サイト全体のユーザー名は [openprotocolfanblog.wordpress.com@openprotocolfanblog.wordpress.com] のような形になります。カスタムドメインを使用することもできます。

有効にしてからの新規投稿がActivityPub対応になります。最大15分程度反映に時間がかかる場合があります。

現在Mastodonの月間アクティブユーザーが180万人 (Servers – Mastodon)、ActivityPub全体で1330万人の合計ユーザーの統計 (the federation – a statistics hub) があります。ActivityPubに対応することで幅広い視聴者にリーチ可能になります。

ActivityPubプラグインの合計インストール数 (ActivityPub (advanced view) – WordPress plugin | WordPress.org) は54756で先月の42831から増加しています。WordPress.com運営元のAutomattic独自の統計 (Stats — WordPress.com) によると、4億900万人以上の人々がWordPress.comのWebサイトで毎月200億ページ以上閲覧しています。これを考えると、分散SNSの規模も拡大する可能性があります。

結論

WordPress.comのActivityPub対応でした。WordPressのActivityPub対応はあまり注目されていませんが、世の中のWebサイトのかなり多くがWordPressで作成されており、その開発・運営元の公式ホスティングサービスにも相当ユーザーがいると思います。それらのユーザーが分散SNSに参加可能になったと考えると、影響はかなり大きく思います。

WordPressのActivityPub対応は、ActivityPubプラグインの他に、FrinedsプラグインやBuddyPressなどのSNS用の複数のプラグインを組み合わせることで本領が発揮されます。私このサイトもWordPressなので個人的に、ここはいろいろ面白い分野で私もいろいろ試したいとは思っていますが、手が回りません。ユーザーが増えて、ベストプラクティスが確立されることを期待したいです。
