Threadsでのトレンド機能のテストが開始されたとの報告があったので紹介します (Threads is testing ‘Today’s topics’ to tell users what’s trending in the US – The Verge、In battle with X, Threads gets trending topics where politics will be allowed | TechCrunch)。

「機能: Threadsへのハッシュタグ・トピック機能の搭載 | GNU social JP Web」で12月初めにハッシュタグ・トピック機能が実装されており、それに続く、Threads内での現在の話題を把握するための機能です。
まずアメリカてテスト開始です。トレンド機能は現在のタイムリーま話題の発見の補助のための機能とのことです。「Today’s topics/今日の話題」が検索ページやフィードで表示されます。このトピックはAIで自動的に決まります。
Metaの専門家がAIで自動生成されたトピックをさらにレビューして重複や混乱がないことを確認し、Threads上での話題の正確な表現に努めるとのことで、政治的な話題も表示対象とのことです。
今回の発表の直前に、政治関係の話題の取扱ポリシーが発表されていました。タイミング的に、このトレンド機能を念頭に置いたもののように感じます。SNSのニュース的な利用においてトレンド機能は重要なものです。これが実装されるとまた一段とX/Twitterに近づきます。そして、AIや専門家に厳選されたトレンド機能は、Nostr/Bluesky/Mastodonなどの他の分散SNS実装と比較しても大きな差別化機能になります。
また、今までは機能のテストはオーストラリアなどの比較的小さめの地域から始めていましたが、今回はいきなりアメリカです。トレンドというある程度の話題の母数が必要な機能ならではのテスト対象選択なのだろうと思います。昔のTwitterのような露骨な政治的な偏りが生まれないことを願いながら、本搭載までの動向を見守ります。
