概要
Linux著者のLinus Torvaldsが分散SNSに登場して話題だったので紹介します。
2023-03-14の以下の投稿がおそらく本人の初投稿で、この日が登録日だと思います。

私自身は、上記のAlex Gleasonの返信で存在を認知しました。
そもそも、social.kernel.orgというサーバー自体の存在をここで初めて私は知りました。「social.kernel.org」の利用規約を見る限り、Linux Kernel開発関係者のみが登録可能な団体サーバーになっています。
Linuxの著者としてTorvaldsは世界的に有名で、分散SNSが稼働しているOSの大半はGNU/Linuxと思われるので、分散SNSユーザーにとっても重要な人物だと感じます。私は2016年頃にLinuxCon Japanで会って、お話したことがあります。
TorvaldsはかつてはSNSとしてはGoogle+を積極的に使っていた記憶があります。Google+閉鎖後はそれ以外のSNSはあまり使っていないようで、分散SNSで再開できたことを嬉しく思いました。
開始
social.kernel.orgの存在を知らなかったので、いつからあるのか調べました。
2022-11-07の以下のモデレーターの投稿がおそらく最初の投稿で、この近辺がサーバー開始日だと思われます。

The social.kernel.org instance is up and running, but I still have a lot of technical debt to do on the backend before I make it available for others. It may go up and down without warning in the meantime.
Please be patient — I will follow up once I have everything ready for others.

設置当初は準備が不十分だったようで、告知もあまりしていなかったようです。なお、Pleromaサーバーだったようです。
In the meantime, if you already have a kernel.org account and really want to be a guinea pig for this instance, please send a request to helpdesk@kernel.org — just expect that things may be occasionally down while I complete the backend setup to be properly config-managed and not cowboyed together.
当初はhelpdesk@kernel.orgへのリクエストが登録に必要だったようです。

Torvaldsの登録後に上記のコメントがあり、当初はPleromaだったものの、Akkomaにソフトが変更されていたようです。

2023-03-21 Tue 11:30追記。記事の公開後、TorvaldsがAkkomaサーバーに登場したことで、LinuxがAkkomaを推奨しているのでは？Mastodon vs. Akkomaのような議論があったそうです。
Replying to all the random individuals that seem to think that I’m “endorsing” one of the Fediverse products over any other, and seem to be making a big deal over #akkoma vs #mastodon etc.
That’s not the case. I’m actually a horrible MIS person, and I would never want to maintain my own server. I’m a programmer for chrissake!
The same way you should fear me if I hold a soldering iron, you should be very very nervous if I were to do any server management.
So all credit (or blame) for the choice of Fediverse platform goes to @monsieuricon, who maintains kernel.org and just made it really easy for me to try this out.
… and on a similar note: not only am I not much of a MIS person, I’m also not much of a social networking person.
I foresee a lot of disappointment in the future of any followers of this account 🔮.
Torvalds自身は、SNSに詳しくなく、管理者の@monsieuriconに一任しているという話でした。
肝心のAkkomaサーバーの設置について「@health | pon」が再投稿していて、情報を確認できたの関連しそうな投稿を掲載します。
I picked Akkoma because it looked more fun. No other reason.

Akkomaの選択理由は楽しそうだったからという理由だそうです。また、2022-12-15にはLinuxSecuritySummitの告知の公式アカウントがこちらに変わったそうです。
Should I switch to akkoma on social.kernel.org?
social.kernel.org should be now up and running on Akkoma. It may take a little bit for things posted during the downtime to show up, but they should all make it there eventually.
2022-12-22にサーバーをAkkomaにすべきかどうかのアンケートを取って、2023-01-30にAkkomaに変えたようです。AkkomaはPleromaがベースなので、変更はそんなに大変ではなかったのだと推測します。
Yes, @torvalds is the real Linus. You should follow him.
なお、上記投稿にある通り、「torvalds@social.kernel.org」はLinus Torvalds本人で間違いないそうです。
結論
Linus Torvaldsの分散SNSへの参加でした。Torvaldsの参加の他に、Linuxの団体サーバーがあること自体を知らなかったので、二重に驚きました。
登録しただけで終わるのかもしれませんが、今後の動向を見るためにひとまずフォローしてみました。
なお、Linuxの団体サーバーについて以下の所感を書きました。
採用ソフトはAkkomaでした。どういう選定判断かわかりませんが、Linuxの性質的に、Mastodonじゃなくて、私は安心しました。 分散SNSのサーバーにMastodonを選ぶということは、どういうことかわかりますか？それぞれ特色ありますから。

30年以上前からGNU/Linuxということで、GNUプロジェクトとセットで繁栄してきたLinuxなだけに、何のサーバーを使うのかは気になっていました。
GNU socialを使ってもらえればよかったのですが、それでもMastodon/Misskeyではなく、GNU socialやGNUと文化の近いPleroma/Akkomaで安心しました。
次の機会にGNU socialを選んでもらえるように、精進していきたいところです。
